Located at 305 W. Main Street in Leipsic, Putnam County, Ohio, the John Edwards House is a Late Victorian mansion built in 1894 at a cost of approximately $21,000. Constructed of brick with a slate roof, the house exemplifies the prosperity generated by the Buckeye Stave Company, founded by the Edwards brothers in 1886, which became one of the largest landowners across northwestern Ohio by the mid-1890s. The mansion's ornate detailing includes elaborate stencilling, molded lion heads, and embossed gold work. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 for its well-preserved historic architecture, the house was purchased in 1977 by Harriett Gamper, an Edwards family descendant, and donated to the village for conversion into a library. It now houses the Leipsic Edwards Gamper Memorial Library, part of the Putnam County District Library system.
