Located in Fort Madison, Iowa, the Craig and Virginia Sheaffer House is a large Tudor Revival residence completed in 1929 by the Chicago architectural firm Mayo and Mayo. The 2½-story house, which spans 138 feet along its north and south elevations, sits on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River and showcases the style's characteristic half-timbering, composed of cypress wood and stucco infill, alongside textured brick laid in patterned and Flemish bond coursing, limestone-faced gables, and mixed brick-and-stone wall surfaces. Craig Sheaffer, president of the Sheaffer Pen Company and wartime Under Secretary of Commerce, built the house as part of a family compound; it later passed to John and Marion Keenan, who also served as president of the pen company. The property's landscaping, completed in 1931, contributes significantly to its historic designation. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
