The Josephus Wolf House is a three-story Victorian Italianate mansion built in 1875 in Portage, Indiana, situated on what was originally a 4,500-acre family farm in Porter County. The 7,800-square-foot residence contains 18 rooms appointed with pine molding and red oak floors, featuring a formal parlor, dining room, study, and bedrooms arranged around a central hall graced with a walnut staircase. A distinctive white cupola rises 45 feet above the roofline, originally serving as an observation point across the entire farm and toward Chicago on clear days. Over its history, the house has served multiple purposes—from private residence to Franciscan monastery, women's shelter, antique store, and bridal shop. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007, the mansion now occupies 5.2 acres and is being developed as a tourist attraction.
