Located northwest of Oskaloosa, Iowa, the John K. Voorhees House is a 2½-story brick residence built in 1871 by a prominent farmer who had settled in Mahaska County in 1853 and accumulated 400 acres of land. The house exemplifies a hybrid of Italianate and Second Empire architectural styles, with a distinctive T-plan and mansard roof. Its notable features include bracketed eaves, limestone quoins adorning the front facade and brick quoins on the rear, and an expansive wrap-around front porch. The structure was supervised during construction by Voorhees himself, working with local masons and carpenters. Originally, a portion of the east porch section and roof balustrades were removed; these elements were later recreated to restore the building's integrity. The house was recognized for its historical significance when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
