JPMorganChase Center is a 42-floor modern skyscraper in Seattle designed by NBBJ and completed in 2006, standing 182.18 meters (597.7 feet) tall as the ninth tallest building in the city. Originally built as the WaMu Center to serve as Washington Mutual's headquarters, the tower was designed to consolidate the company's Seattle-area workforce and encourage worker interaction through an innovative workplace layout. When Washington Mutual failed in September 2008, its assets were purchased by JPMorgan Chase, and the building was renamed Chase Center in 2009 before being acquired by Northwestern Mutual of Milwaukee, which relocated its subsidiary Russell Investments to the tower and renamed it the Russell Investments Center. The building integrates the Seattle Art Museum on its first four floors, with provisions for the museum to expand in two-floor increments up to the 12th floor. The tower also features a distinctive 20,000-square-foot rooftop patio on the 17th floor for workers' use, and its west facade displays a "12" during Seattle Seahawks games, referencing the team's 12th man tradition.
