Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1950 and built between 1951 and 1954, the Karl A. Staley House sits on the shores of Lake Erie in North Madison, Ohio, exemplifying Wright's Usonian design philosophy. Constructed of natural river stone gathered from Mill Creek in Madison—a distinctive material choice among Ohio's Wright buildings—the residence features an I-plan form with original accommodations of two bedrooms, study, and workspace. The house's street-facing side presents its rear elevation; the true front consists of a window-wall oriented toward Lake Erie, commanding panoramic water views. A shop accessible from the carport was later converted to a guest bedroom during 1980 restoration work. Recognized for its stringent fidelity to Wright's original design, the Staley House is one of few "user-built" Wright structures in the state and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
