Konopiště Castle is a four-winged, three-storey castle in Konopiště, now part of Benešov in the Central Bohemian Region of Czech Republic, built beginning in 1300. Constructed in the romantic architectural style, it became widely known as the last residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne. Following his assassination in Sarajevo in 1914—an event that triggered World War I—the castle gained historical prominence. The bullet fired by his assassin, Gavrilo Princip, is now displayed in the castle's museum. Designated a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic, Konopiště remains a significant historical site linking Central European aristocratic life to the pivotal events of the twentieth century.
