Located in Des Moines, Iowa, the Lampson P. Sherman House is a Victorian-era frame dwelling built in 1888 that exemplifies the residential architecture of Drake University's early campus surroundings. The 2½-story structure features distinctive crossed gables arranged in a cross pattern, with shingled gable ends, decorative porch and gable end brackets, and turned porch columns. Built on property originally owned by Drake University, the house was sold by Hoyt Sherman to his brother Lampson—a Drake student—in 1890, remaining in the Sherman family until 1904. The property's history reflects Drake University's significant role in financing the settlement and development of the campus area. The house was recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
