Lane Cottage is a historic cure cottage built around 1923 in Saranac Lake, North Elba, Essex County, New York. Constructed by Edward Shaw for his tubercular wife, this L-shaped frame structure exemplifies the Shingle Style with its cedar-shingled exterior and jerkinhead gable roof. The cottage features a distinctive open gable portico with gracefully curved gable returns and a cure porch—design elements suited to the therapeutic regimen of the era. Reflecting the infectious nature of tuberculosis, a separate house was built nearby for the Shaws' young children to protect them from contagion. The cottage was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
