The Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art, opened in 2004 in the Hannam-dong district of Seoul's Yongsan area. Run by the Samsung Foundation of Culture, it is ranked among South Korea's three leading private art museums. The institution's architecture reflects a two-part design philosophy: Swiss architect Mario Botta designed the wing dedicated to traditional Korean art, while French architect Jean Nouvel and Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas collaborated on the contemporary art section. This division of architectural vision allows the museum to present both historical and modern artistic traditions within a single, structurally distinct campus.
