Little Caesars Arena is a multi-purpose sports venue in Midtown Detroit, designed by HOK and completed in 2017 at a cost of $862.9 million. Opening in September that year, it replaced Joe Louis Arena and the Palace of Auburn Hills as the home of the Detroit Red Wings (NHL) and Detroit Pistons (NBA). The arena features a distinctive clear plastic roofed concourse that connects the venue to surrounding offices and shops. Originally envisioned as the centerpiece of the District Detroit, a $2.1 billion mixed-use sports and entertainment district spanning 650,000 square feet with residential and retail developments around the Cass Corridor, Ford Field, and Comerica Park, that broader development has not been realized. The arena will also host PWHL Detroit and a Detroit WNBA team beginning in 2026 and 2029, respectively.
