Completed in 1932 in Vedado, Cuba, the López Serrano Building is an Art Deco residential structure designed by architect Ricardo Mira. It stood as the tallest residential building in Cuba until the construction of the FOCSA in 1956. The building's massing and central tower invite comparison to the Bacardi Building in Old Havana, which was completed two years earlier. The structure gained historical notoriety as the home of congressman, senator, and presidential candidate Eduardo Chibás, who lived in the fourteenth-floor penthouse before his death by suicide in August 1951, broadcast during a live radio program at CMQ Radio Station.
