At the northern edge of Los Angeles's Civic Center stands the Los Angeles County Hall of Records, a high-rise designed by Richard Neutra and Robert Alexander and completed in 1962. An exemplar of International Style architecture, the building features distinctive horizontal louvers reminiscent of Neutra's celebrated Kaufmann Desert House. A sculptural screen by artist Malcolm Leland adorns the façade, introducing ornamentation into the modernist design. The structure replaced an earlier Hall of Records from 1911, which was demolished in 1973.
