Located at 111 South Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, the Walt Disney Concert Hall is the fourth performance venue of the Los Angeles Music Center, designed by architect Frank Gehry and completed in 2003. The building's expressive deconstructivist exterior, bounded by Hope, Grand, and 1st and 2nd streets, houses 2,265 seats and serves as home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Los Angeles Master Chorale. Its interior represents a hybrid approach to hall design, balancing the vineyard-style seating of Hans Scharoun's Berliner Philharmonie with the classical shoebox proportions of the Vienna Musikverein and Boston Symphony Hall. Funded by Lillian Disney's initial gift of $50 million in 1987 as a tribute to Walt Disney's devotion to the arts, the hall's acoustic design by Minoru Nagata and completed under his protégé Yasuhisa Toyota has earned widespread praise, notably surpassing its predecessor, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
