A 26-story Art Deco skyscraper completed in 1932 in Minneapolis, the Lumen Technologies Building was designed by architect Edwin Hawley Hewitt. Originally 346 feet tall, it rose to 416 feet after an AT&T communications array was added mid-century, though that array was removed in 2019. The building's exterior features distinctive ornamental details, including stylized electric bolts and a bird above the main entrance. During its construction, an unusual economy was practiced: the steel frame from a 1920s Northwestern Bell building on the site was salvaged and incorporated into the new structure. The building was expanded on its west side in the 1940s and has served various telecommunications companies, from Northwestern Bell Telephone to its current owner, Lumen Technologies.
