Mamutica (meaning "Female mammoth") is the largest building by volume in Croatia and one of Europe's largest apartment complexes, located in the Travno neighborhood of Eastern Novi Zagreb. Designed by Đure Mirković and Nevenka Postružnik and completed in 1974 by Industrogradnja, this postmodern structure exemplifies the panelák or plattenbau housing model. The massive complex stretches approximately 240 meters in length and rises 60 meters, comprising 19 inhabited floors with 1,169 apartments housing roughly 5,000 residents across six entrances (the larger section) and three entrances (the smaller section). The building incorporates 256 garages and 24 ground-level commercial outlets. Notable for its structural resilience, Mamutica is one of only two buildings in Zagreb engineered to withstand the strongest earthquakes, and it was strategically designed with internal aggregate capacity to serve as a hospital in wartime. Its estimated value as of 2010 was approximately 135 million euros.
