The Gneisenau Memorial, erected in Berlin's Mitte district on Bebelplatz, commemorates the Prussian field marshal and freedom fighter August Neidhardt von Gneisenau (1760–1831). Executed in bronze in neoclassical style by sculptor Christian Daniel Rauch between 1840 and 1855, the 2.72-meter statue represents a significant work of the Berlin school of sculpture. Originally positioned at the front of Unter den Linden avenue from its completion until 1950, where it formed part of an urban ensemble, the monument was relocated to the rear of Bebelplatz green space in 1963, where it remains as an important architectural heritage monument.
