Located in what is now Denali National Park in Alaska, the Mount McKinley National Park Headquarters District served as the original administrative center of the park. Established in its current location in 1925, the district grew into an extensive collection of National Park Service Rustic structures, primarily designed by the National Park Service's Branch of Plans and Designs during the 1930s. The Civilian Conservation Corps played a crucial role in the district's development beginning in 1938, constructing buildings, roads, sewer and water lines, and undertaking conservation and recreation-oriented projects throughout both the headquarters area and the wider park. The district's coordinated expansion followed detailed plans from the Branch of Plans and Design, reflecting the systematic approach to park infrastructure during the Depression era.
