Perched on Peabody Heights overlooking Port Angeles, Washington, the Olympic National Park Headquarters Historic District comprises six contributing buildings erected between 1940 and 1944, along with eight contributing structures and seventeen non-contributing properties. Designed by the National Park Service in the rustic style using locally sourced native materials, the complex served as the administrative center for Olympic National Park and was notably the first park headquarters to be situated outside its primary park boundaries. The most prominent structure, the two-story Administration Building, features masonry and wood-frame construction with horizontal emphasis created by linear banding in its shingled upper story. Other key structures include the Superintendent's Residence (later converted to offices), the Gas and Oil House with its stone and timber construction, and the Equipment and Supply Building, a 199-foot-long masonry structure partially rebuilt in 1970 after fire damage. Much of the work was carried out by Public Works Administration and Civilian Conservation Corps workers, while native landscaping enhances the site. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
