The Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac, which opened in 2006, is a national museum in Paris's 7th arrondissement designed by French architect Jean Nouvel in the deconstructivist style. Located on the left bank of the Seine near the Eiffel Tower, it houses more than a million ethnographic objects—photographs, documents, and indigenous artifacts—drawn from Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas, with approximately 3,500 items on display at any time through permanent and temporary thematic exhibitions. Since its opening, the museum has attracted significant visitation and serves as both a public institution and research center jointly administered by France's Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Higher Education and Research. The building has garnered both acclaim and controversy, with some scholars and governments advocating for the repatriation of items acquired during colonial periods.
