Located in Quebec City's historic Old Quebec near the Saint Lawrence River, the Musée de la civilisation opened in 1988 as a postmodern design by architect Moshe Safdie. The 33.97-meter structure ingeniously incorporates two earlier buildings—the Banque de Paris and the Maison Estèbe—into its architecture. Housing over 225,000 objects spanning art, society, and ethnography, the museum presents permanent and temporary exhibitions focused on humanities alongside virtual displays. It serves multiple functions beyond exhibition space, operating as a publishing house and organizational hub. Facilities include Quartier des découvertes, a dedicated children's discovery zone, alongside guided visits, a French America reference centre, performances, boutiques, and a cafeteria. The building is recognized as part of a Quebec heritage property.
