Musiktheater im Revier, an opera house in Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia, opened on 15 December 1959 and was designed by architect Werner Ruhnau. The building presents a striking cubic exterior that contrasts with its interior spaces: the Large House seats 1,008 and hosts approximately 200 performances yearly, while the more intimate Small House accommodates 336 patrons with around 120 annual performances. Both auditoria employ curved design elements, offering venues for opera, operetta, musical theatre, and ballet. Protected as a cultural monument since 1997, it remains a significant performing arts institution in the Ruhr region.
