Theater Aachen, located in the Mitte district of Aachen, Germany, is the city's principal venue for opera, musical theatre, and plays, and serves as home to the Sinfonieorchester Aachen. The original theatre was designed by Johann Peter Cremer and later altered by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, with construction beginning in 1822 and opening on 15 May 1825. The first building was destroyed by a bomb attack on 14 July 1943 during World War II. The current structure was inaugurated on 23 December 1951 with a performance of Richard Wagner's *Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg*, and the theatre is designated as an architectural heritage monument in North Rhine-Westphalia.
