The National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo is a Moorish Revival structure established in 1945. The library was originally housed in Vijećnica, the city's historic City Hall, until the Bosnian War, when Serbian forces shelled the building on the night of August 25–26, 1992, destroying significant portions of its archival and library collections. The institution has since relocated to the Campus of the University of Sarajevo, where it continues to serve as the nation's principal library.
