Designed by French architect Paul Andreu, the National Centre for the Performing Arts opened in Beijing in 2007 as the largest theatre complex in Asia. Its distinctive semi-spherical form—colloquially known as "The Boiled Egg"—measures 212 metres east to west and 144 metres north to south, rising 46 metres in height. The high-tech structure encompasses some 165,000 square metres of space across main buildings and underground facilities, housing an opera hall, music hall, theatre, art exhibition halls, restaurants, and retail shops, making it a comprehensive performing arts venue built at a cost of approximately 3.067 billion yuan.
