The Needles Lighthouse stands on the outermost of the chalk rocks at The Needles, off the Isle of Wight, near sea level. James Walker designed this circular granite tower for Trinity House, and it was completed in 1859. It replaced an earlier light on a cliff above Scratchell's Bay, first lit in 1786, and remains an active Grade II listed building.
