The Nithyakalyana Perumal temple in Thiruvidandai, a village in Chennai's Chengalpattu district, is dedicated to Varaha, the boar avatar of Vishnu, and ranks among the 108 Divya Desams sacred to Hindu pilgrimage. Built originally by the Pallavas in the 7th century CE in Tamil Dravidian style, the temple received significant additions from the Cholas during the 11th century. Celebrated in the early medieval Naalayira Divya Prabandham, a 6th–9th-century canon of the Alvar saints, the temple enshrines Vishnu as Nithyakalayana Perumal and his consort Lakshmi as Komalavalli Thayar. A granite wall encloses all sanctums, while a temple tank lies opposite the main entrance. Following the Tenkalai tradition of worship, the temple hosts four daily rituals and prominent yearly festivals including the Chittirai Brahmotsavam in April–May and Vaikuntha Ekadashi in December–January. It holds the status of Monument of National Importance and is administered by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of Tamil Nadu.
