Olavinlinna, also known as St. Olaf's Castle, is a 15th-century three-tower stone fortress built in 1475 on an island in the Kyrönsalmi strait in Savonlinna, Finland, where it connects the lakes Haukivesi and Pihlajavesi. It stands as the northernmost surviving medieval stone fortress and the best preserved of all medieval castles in the former Swedish realm. The castle has served as the dramatic venue for the Savonlinna Opera Festival since its inaugural performance in the summer of 1912. Now protected under Finnish Decree 480/85, it functions as both a museum and a symbol of Finland's medieval heritage.
