The Palácio da Alvorada, located on a peninsula at the margins of Paranoá Lake in Brasília, is the official residence of the president of Brazil. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer and constructed between 1957 and 1958, the building exemplifies modernist architecture and has served as the residence of every Brazilian president since Juscelino Kubitschek. In addition to its role as the presidential home, the palace functions as a venue for official receptions. Designated a National Historic Heritage Site, the Palácio da Alvorada remains distinct from the Palácio do Planalto, which houses the president's workplace and serves as the center of the executive branch.
