The Palácio das Mangabeiras, located in the Mangabeiras region of Belo Horizonte, was the official residence of the governors of Minas Gerais state from its completion in 1955 until 2019. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer as a modernist structure with gardens by Roberto Burle Marx, the palace was constructed beginning in 1951 at the behest of then-governor Juscelino Kubitschek, who sought a residence more suitable for balancing professional and personal activities than the existing Palácio da Liberdade. Set in the Serra do Curral, the building underwent successive expansions and alterations by later governors that modified Niemeyer's original layout. Following a decree in June 2019, the palace ceased to serve as the official gubernatorial residence. In 2022, the structure and its surrounding 42,000 square meters were converted into a public park, which has since hosted numerous major events, ceremonies, and workshops.
