Peoria State Hospital, a psychiatric facility built in 1902 near Peoria in Bartonville, Illinois, exemplifies Prairie School architectural principles across its historic grounds. Operated by the State of Illinois from 1902 until its closure in 1973, the hospital complex once encompassed 63 buildings and served as an institution for treating mental illness. The entire hospital grounds and their structures are now designated as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places, preserving this significant example of early twentieth-century institutional architecture and medical facility design.
