The Pfalztheater in Kaiserslautern, Germany, is a postmodern theatre building and the only three-genre venue in Rhineland-Palatinate, staging music, drama, and dance. The city's theatrical history stretches back to 1862, when Andreas Müller, owner of the Spittelmühle, financed the first theatre on Theaterstraße. After being destroyed by fire and rebuilt, the theatre became a municipal venue in 1897 and grew into the Städtebundoper through regional partnerships with Pirmasens and Zweibrücken during the early twentieth century. The original building was completely destroyed by bombing on 14 August 1944. Performances resumed in October 1945 at the Capitol cinema, and when funds were secured, the Film-Palast cinema was converted into a permanent replacement, opening in September 1950.
