Built in 1917 for The Popular, a department store chain founded by Adolph Schwartz in El Paso in 1902, this Chicago School building in El Paso, Texas was designed by the architectural firm Trost & Trost. The structure reflects the commercial aesthetic of early twentieth-century American urban design, characterized by the Chicago School's distinctive approach to commercial architecture. After remaining in Schwartz's family's hands for decades, the building was sold in 1995 and subsequently operated as the Fallas Department Store. The building has been recognized on the National Register of Historic Places since 1980.
