Queen's Quay Terminal in Toronto's Harbourfront neighbourhood is a mixed-use complex that preserves and transforms a historic 1927 marine terminal. Originally constructed as a shipping facility with office, warehouse, and cold-storage spaces, the building fell into disuse as maritime traffic to Toronto declined during the 1960s and 1970s. After the Canadian government acquired the property for waterfront redevelopment, the structure was extensively rebuilt in the 1980s, retaining its Art Deco character while adding four residential condominium floors above. The original ground level was converted to retail and office space. Neighbouring portions of the terminal were repurposed into cultural venues: the demolished cold-storage wing created the public plaza Canada Square, while the former plant building became The Power Plant gallery and Harbourfront Centre Theatre, anchoring the site's transformation from industrial use to mixed residential, commercial, and cultural destination.
