Riga Castle stands on the banks of the River Daugava in Latvia's capital, founded in 1330. The structure underwent a thorough rebuilding between 1497 and 1515, and following its seizure by the Swedes, spacious annexes were added in 1641. The fortress continued to be augmented and reconstructed through the 17th and 19th centuries. In the 1930s, architect Eižens Laube oversaw renovation work on the complex. Declared the Latvian government's residence in 1938, the castle now serves as the official residence of the President of Latvia and houses several museums, holding status as a national architectural monument.
