Located in Marshalltown, Iowa, the Robert H. Sunday House was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the Usonian style and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Originally, the homeowner Robert H. Sunday—who owned Marshall Lumber—and his wife had intended to build a Usonian Automatic home using natural concrete blocks, but when that proved unworkable, Wright provided alternative plans. Similar in style and materials to the 1953 Usonian Exhibition House and believed to be the last of Wright's Usonian homes built in brick, it became the sixth of seven such houses designed by Wright and constructed in Iowa. Sunday served as his own general contractor and, together with his wife, completed much of the construction themselves. Wright assistant John H. "Jack" Howe supervised the initial building and later designed a seamless 1970 addition—comprising a family room, terrace, and dining room—that transformed the original L-shaped plan into a T-shaped configuration. Howe had also designed the building for Sunday's business in 1964.
