Sancaktar Hayrettin Mosque in Istanbul is a modest brick structure of Byzantine construction, originally part of the Eastern Orthodox Monastery of Gastria before the Ottomans converted it into a mosque. A minor but historically significant example of Palaiologan architecture in Constantinople, the small building reflects the layered religious history of the city, having served both as monastic and Islamic places of worship.
