The Schottenkirche, or Scots Church, is a Baroque parish church located in Vienna's Innere Stadt district on the Freyung. Built beginning in 1401, it stands adjacent to the Schottenstift, a monastery originally founded by Irish Benedictine monks in the 12th century. In 1418, Duke Albert V transferred the complex to German-speaking Benedictine monks from Melk Abbey as part of the Melker Reform following the Council of Constance. The church was elevated to the rank of Basilica Minor in 1958, acknowledging its historical and spiritual significance.
