Scotia Plaza is a 275-meter postmodern commercial skyscraper completed in 1988 in Toronto's financial district, designed by WZMH Architects. Originally developed by Olympia and York as the global headquarters for Scotiabank, the 68-story structure contains 190,000 square meters of office space and 40 retail stores, connected to the PATH network. At the time of its completion, it became Canada's third tallest building. Scotiabank occupied the structure throughout its ownership transitions—from Olympia and York's liquidation in 1993 through the bank's gradual acquisition of majority ownership—until selling the property in 2012 to Dundee Real Estate Investment Trust and H&R Real Estate Investment Trust for $1.27 billion. Subsequent ownership changes placed the building with KingSett Capital and AIMCo by 2017. Though Scotiabank relocated its global headquarters to Scotiabank North in 2022, the bank maintains a substantial corporate presence at Scotia Plaza under an ongoing lease.
