Bank of America Plaza, a postmodern supertall skyscraper completed in 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia, rises 1,023 feet (312 meters) between Midtown and Downtown. Designed by architect Kevin Roche and clad in granite, the 55-story tower earned the colloquial nickname "the pencil building" for its distinctive tapered form. Originally planned as headquarters for Citizens & Southern National Bank before corporate mergers reshaped its ownership, it opened as NationsBank Plaza and subsequently took its current name. Upon completion, it became Georgia's tallest building, surpassing One Atlantic Center, and held the distinction of being the tallest building in any U.S. state capital until 2025.
