Sourp Magar, also known as Magaravank, is an Armenian monastery situated on the Pentadhaktylos mountain range in Cyprus at 530 meters altitude, approximately 11 kilometers northeast of Kythrea. The most important Armenian ecclesiastical building and only Armenian monastery in Cyprus, it occupies a picturesque location commanding distant views of the Mediterranean and the Taurus Mountains in Asia Minor. Historically a center of Armenian culture with close ties to the Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia, the monastery was traditionally celebrated on the first Sunday of May. Since 1974, the site has been located in the occupied part of Cyprus and now stands in ruins, in urgent need of restoration.
