St Clement Danes is an Anglican church in the City of Westminster, London, designed by Sir Christopher Wren in the English Baroque style and completed in 1682. Located on the Strand near the Royal Courts of Justice, it replaced a medieval church that tradition held was founded in the ninth century by the Danes. Wren's building was devastated during World War II bombing raids and subsequently restored in 1958, when it became the central church of the Royal Air Force. The church may be the subject of the nursery rhyme "Oranges and Lemons," and its bells play that melody daily at regular intervals. As one of two "Island Churches" positioned in the middle of the Strand, St Clement Danes remains a Grade I listed building.
