The St. George Opera House in St. George, Utah, is a historic building with an unconventional origin: it was originally constructed as a wine cellar by the St. George Gardeners' Club. As wine demand declined, the structure was expanded to accommodate theatrical productions. The building served as a venue for performances until 1936, when it was sold to the Utah-Idaho Sugar Company. Following decades of different use, the opera house underwent restoration in 1988 and reopened to the public. Today it is recognized as a National Register of Historic Places listing.
