The Straz Center for the Performing Arts is a performing arts complex in downtown Tampa, Florida, situated on a 9-acre site along the Hillsborough River. Opened in July 1987 at a cost of $57 million as the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center and renamed in 2009, the 335,000-square-foot venue is the second-largest performing arts complex in the Southeastern United States. Owned by the City of Tampa and operated as a not-for-profit, it hosts Broadway productions, grand opera, concerts, and theatrical performances, including the "Broadway Genesis Project," launched in 2009 to present potential Broadway premieres. A 2018 renovation upgraded stages with new wood floors, LED lighting, and improved dressing rooms. The center draws approximately 600,000 visitors annually and generates an estimated $100 million in statewide economic impact.
