Sussex Heights is a modernist residential tower block completed in 1968 in central Brighton, designed by architect Richard Seifert. Rising 102 metres and containing 116 flats including a penthouse, it was built between 1966 and 1968 on the site of a historic church. The tower held the distinction of being the UK's tallest residential building outside London until 2005, and remained Brighton and Hove's tallest structure until 2015. While Seifert's design has drawn criticism for its imposing scale and jarring contrast with the city's neighbouring Regency architecture, it is nonetheless recognised as a prestigious luxury development. The building has become an unexpected habitat for peregrine falcons, which have nested at its summit and successfully bred there over several years.
