The Teatro Carignano is one of Italy's oldest and most important theatres, located in Turin opposite the Palazzo Carignano. Designed by Benedetto Alfieri and inaugurated in 1753 with Baldassare Galuppi's opera *Calamità de' cuori*, it served as a significant opera house throughout its history. Much of the original structure was destroyed in a fire in 1786 but was swiftly rebuilt using Alfieri's original plans. The theatre has undergone several renovations since then and today functions primarily as a venue for dramatic performances, though it retains its historical importance. Owned by the City of Turin and administered by the Teatro Stabile di Torino theatre company, it remains one of the company's principal performing venues and is designated as Italian national heritage.
