The Teatro Donizetti is an opera house in Bergamo, Italy, designed by Giovanni Francesco Lucchini and built in the 1780s. Originally called the Teatro Nuovo or Teatro di Fiera, the theatre first hosted an opera—Giuseppe Sarti's *Medonte, re di Epiro*—in 1784 while still under construction. It officially opened on 24 August 1791 under the name Teatro Riccardi with Metastasio's *Didone abbandonata*. Destroyed by fire in 1797, Lucchini was commissioned to rebuild it, and the new structure opened on 30 June 1800 with a characteristic horseshoe plan featuring three tiers of boxes and two galleries. The theatre was renamed Teatro Gaetano Donizetti in 1897 to mark the centenary of the Bergamo-born composer's birth. It holds the status of Italian national heritage and is adjacent to a park with a monument to Donizetti.
