The Teatro Comunale di Firenze was an opera house in Florence designed by Telemaco Buonaiuti and originally built as the open-air Politeama Fiorentino Vittorio Emanuele, inaugurated on 17 May 1862 with a production of Donizetti's *Lucia di Lammermoor*. The amphitheatre seated 6,000 people and quickly became the focus of cultural life in the city. Following a fire-related closure, it reopened in April 1864 and acquired a roof in 1882, bringing the structure into its permanent form. By 1911 the theatre boasted both electricity and heating. The building stood until its demolition in 2021.
