The Terrace Theatre, a 1,299-seat movie palace designed by the Minneapolis firm Liebenberg & Kaplan, opened on May 23, 1951, at 3508 France Avenue North in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Built for exhibitors Sidney and William Volk in the mid-century modern style, it drew immediate critical praise for its bold architectural lines and extensive patron amenities, becoming a popular Twin Cities destination for nearly fifty years. The theater was converted from a single screen to three screens in 1987 through balcony subdivision. After closing in 1999, the building sat vacant for seventeen years. Despite preservation efforts and an unsuccessful attempt to secure National Register status, the Robbinsdale City Council approved its demolition in 2016, and the theater was razed that fall to make way for a Hy-Vee grocery store.
