Located at 19 Ware Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts, The Stanstead is a three-story apartment building constructed in 1887 in the Richardsonian Romanesque style. Designed by architects J. R. & W. P. Richards, it represents an uncommon brick interpretation of the triple-decker, a housing type that was just emerging in popularity in Cambridge but typically built in wood frame. The building's distinction lies in its material choice—brick construction rather than the more conventional wood—marking it as an early example of brick apartment housing in the city. The Richards firm also designed The Jarvis, another pioneering brick apartment house in Cambridge. The Stanstead was recognized as a historic place and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
